How early to arrive at Heathrow

Heathrow recommends 2 hours before European flights and 3 hours before long-haul. In practice, 90 minutes is usually enough for European with carry-on only. Terminal 5 security is efficient; Terminal 2 can be slow during the 06:00–09:00 peak. If you're checking bags, add 20 minutes. Fast-track security is available with business class and some credit cards.

T3 (Virgin, Delta, Emirates): variable — long-haul heavy, can be busy. T4 (SkyTeam): generally quiet but furthest from central London — allow extra transfer time getting there.
